Okay, so I had best intentions in putting together the mega-mile garage sale. The garage sale that was going to make us a butt-load of money to send us to Europe but after many choice words with my husband on the mess, I've nixed this plan and started donating things. I usually have a bag ready for anyone who calls once or twice a month but I was really able to purge a lot of things all the while thinking I was going to make major bank on it but the mess was getting out.of.control. So, after a couple of cocktails or more, many more, I ended up putting most of this organized crap on my porch "Sanford and Son" style. Because really, who wants to sell their crap in 100 degree heat while explaining (**flash back from last garage sale**) the Coach purse I had marked $10 is a far cry better than paying the original price douche-bag and if you don't want to purchase it for this super-duper low price? Fine! Don't! I'm getting a better tax write-off donating it so, you... you... you (insert scabby name) get off my lawn! Because I really want to be nice here so you'll buy that old bag for $10 instead of throw it at you. In the end I didn't want my profit going towards my bail money.
Ahem, I think I made a 'rational' decision in the end.
Next up? A good friend is coming into town next week for a nice visit. What do we decide to do? Start a home improvement project that may cause a divorce if it isn't completed by next Monday.
Update on pending marital status later this week.

You made the right choice, garage sales are a pain in the ass. Good luck on your home improvement and I hope your marriage stays intact through it all. ;)

Don't know if you had thought of posting the larger or more valuable items on Craigslist. Craiglist.com sends you to a WAAY different site, by the way. Found this out by my area, and it was really simple and quick. Good luck on the reno project, and I wish you massive amounts of patience. Or alcohol. Whichever is easier to have at hand. :)

What ya need to do right now is open an ebay account and sell that stuff online as you decide you're done with it. No build up. Ah, never mind - that's still too much trouble. Take pictures of it, make a list, and write it off on your taxes...

Crap and monkeys! I meant that I found out about the Craiglist.com website by accident, and that selling the stuff on CL was really simple and quick. Proofread? Type slower? Screw that. lol Again, now you see how i found out Craiglist.com was a website. :P

I can't even tell you how many ongoing projects my husband has going on right now. It kills me! Let's see. There's the bathroom that he tore the tile out of about 7 months ago (it was cracking because he was a cheap ass and used too thin of plywood last time whe the floor has a slight curve to it). So the tile is half ripped out. The paint has been purchased for the bathroom but we haven't gotten around to painting it yet. The curtains are still not up in our bedroom. Well, one is, but the other two windows just let the sun right on in on our faces at 5:30 am. The deck that he is supposedly going to put out back is not even planned to be started. The fenced in backyard never happened. We have a central a/c that died at the end of summer 2009? That is apparently not fixable but it sits out there. Eventually we need to insulate our house because there's basically no insulation.
I guess that's about it.
Houses suck. Disorganized hubbies suck too. LOL!

And hell, I Goodwill stuff all the time, now that I know I can drive by and basically toss the bags right out of my trunk. Ugly clothes? See ya later! Ugly shit from MIL? See ya later (and please, don't re-buy it for us)!

Didn't want to say it before and burst your bubble, but hell yeah. That is why I hate garage sales. No matter how decent you price something NICE, some asshole is still going to haggle you to give it to them for a freaking quarter. That's why I just give it away too. Sanity > cash. But that won't get you to Europe. Hope you can find another way to go. PS, my house sucks. Been back from "vacation" since Saturday. Suitcase still by front door.

I'm with you on the donating. Everyone always has great intentions with garage sales, thinking like you that they'll earn tons of cash. In reality, the time and effort you put forth to handle everything multiple times (sorting for garage sale, labeling garage sale, setting up for garage sale, moving crap around so people think it's different and may want to purchase it after walking by it 12 times at the old location, repacking all the crap that didn't sell, labeling for donation or to keep until next crappy garage sale b/c this gem was obviously overlooked!)is never worth whatever money you 'make.'
My family is threatening a huge garage sale at my house during our fair. I'm praying they all forget about it. There isn't enough booze for me to clean out my own house/garage so that I can store other people's shit and do all the work of a garage sale b/c they're alarm didn't go off.
Kuddos to you!!

I always think the same thing, "Let's have a garage sale and make lots of money!", and then I realize I would actually have to have a garage sale. I would rather stick pins in my eyes.
Hope you have a nice visit with your friend!

I'm a fan of donating rather than the hassle of a garage sale. Good thinking! Good luck with the home improvement project!

I've been collecting shit to sell on ebay or at a garage sale for far too long. It's like a GD episode of Hoarders over here. It's all gotta go. Half the shit came from Goodwill or a resale store anyway. Ugh.
